National Library teams with Google

The National Library of Australia has struck an agreement with search giant Google to give online researchers access to the institution’s digital holdings of Australian newspapers via Google’s News Archive service.

Is Yahoo! going under?

Now the market collapse has helped drive Yahoo!’s value to a fraction of what Microsoft originally bid. If Microsoft - or another buyer - were to float a new offer, the acquisition would come much cheaper, and Yahoo! would probably be under even greater pressure to take it.

Microsoft versus Google

A decision from the Justice Department on the deal is expected in the next few days. But Microsoft’s strength in Washington combined with Google’s missteps there might have jeopardised a deal that - as it is a business partnership and not a merger - did not even require Justice approval in the first place.
